Historic general-election results (1955–2024)

Historic constituency election results shown in the Explore section come from the UK Election Data Vault.

These results are recorded under each constituency's name. Constituency boundaries, names and composition have changed repeatedly since 1955, so a shared name does not always mean an unchanged geographic seat. Current turnout and electorate figures for the latest result come from the House of Commons Library, not this dataset.

Historic by-elections (1955–present)

By-elections shown in the Explore section and on constituency pages come from the UK Election Data Vault.

This dataset records political control, causes and transitions only. It does not contain vote totals, turnout, majorities, swing or full candidate lists, so Chamberwise does not show any. Constituency names are matched conservatively and, as with historic general elections, a shared name does not always mean an unchanged geographic seat. Incumbent and winner names are recorded as they appear in the source and are not linked to verified MP records.
